Best known for his celestial interiors and landscapes of the world’s most beautiful places, Thomas McKnight has also been concerned with an interior world he calls Arcadiaa place where nymphs linger by ancient springs, oracles speak, and angels appear. In the past decade, in a burst of creativity, McKnight has developed a new style to best depict these interior visions. A selection of over one hundred of the new paintings has been made for this handsome new monograph. The beautiful, full color plates and myriad detials are accompanied by text and commentary by Francesco Colonna, an Italian art critic.far-ranging essay Colonna discusses how McKnight’s latest work is situated in a new but traditional way of looking at and thinking about art. This enchanting new body of work by one of the major artists working today is collected here for the first time and it will transport the reader to the earthly paradise of the painter’s imagination.
